The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women event in Detroit was an unforgettable experience. Coming together for a great cause, there was an infectious energy of love, support, and inspiration throughout the event.
The luncheon was packed with everyone dressed in the beautiful hue of red. Attendees had opportunities to participate in breakout sessions to learn more about living a healthy lifestyle. There were informational vendors, an auction, an area for makeup and more. There was also a selfie section to create those unforgettable memories through photos using the hashtag #DetroitGoRed.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing one in three deaths each year. Heart disease doesn’t affect all women alike, and the warning signs for women aren’t different in men.
Kim Coles was the keynote sharing a motivational and hilarious speech. She left us with an inspirational token to step out and share our gifts while using the acronym to help everyone find, create, and follow through with their greatness. G.I.F.T.S. (Gratitude, Intention, Forgiveness, Triumphant, Self-love)
The event was held at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center on Friday as a celebration of the power of women bringing awareness to the issue of heart disease. The luncheon was a wonderful way to hear stories of how heart disease affects women, families, and their community. The donations go towards research and education.
