There was a time a few years ago, 2014 to be exact, I had a really hard year. I do know that we can choose to see things differently, but this year I wasn’t in that space. I was following learned behavior of seeing the wrong, blaming and shaming more than really taking a strong look at my thoughts and actions. I don’t know what happened and when I got back to this space. Before, I was a pretty optimistic person. As things were getting worse, I had to do a strong self and spiritual examination. I realized, although I wasn’t where I wanted to be at the time, if I kept up this mindset nothing would change. Our thoughts create our future. I started to change some things. I started asking what do I need to learn from this and how can I grow, I started to release the negative tension that was going on at work, and I started a gratitude practice.
Along with my morning pages, I listed five things I was grateful for everyday. Because my vibration was so low, it was hard. I stayed consistent, after that each week I added five more items. Then, I started to write down a gratitude list for things I wanted to happen. Anytime things got difficult, I would ask, “what is the lesson” and I would think about all of the blessings that were coming in my life. It didn’t take long before things begin to shift and turn around. Within months, I was offered a promotion, I booked a few more clients, and there was a natural release of things that use to bother me.
There is power in a gratitude practice. I still make a list of things I am grateful for every day. If you want to start a gratitude practice here are three things you can do to get started and continue.
- Write things you are grateful for in your journal, if you already have a journal, make room for your gratitude list so you have it all in one place.
- In your practice as you get your daily gratitude down, allow yourself to dream and write down a gratitude list of things you want to happen in the future. Set the intention, say thank you, align yourself, and see the blessings unfold.
- Purchase a gratitude journal. There are many journals out there, some are specific to gratitude. This is a great way to get focused, because it focuses on your gratitude practice and you can look to see how far you’ve come. Here are some options to get you started
As you go through life understand that things happen for us. Be grateful for it all and trust the journey.
